Molins more than doubles first-half profit

Cementos Molins recorded a profit of EUR17.9m in the first half of 2014, effectively more than doubling its 1H13 figure, on the back of its international business, said the company. The cement company increased its overseas profit by 2.9 per cent to EUR31.6m, but its Spanish subsidiaries recorded a EUR13.6m loss, 39 per cent below the 1H13 level. Argentina: Cementos Avellaneda to double capacity

Cementos Avellaneda plans to invest US$100m at its La Calera works in San Luis to double its production, according to CEO Miguel De Anquin. The expansion is expected to supply the local market in San Luis, which due to public works and private projects has seen its cement consumption rise to nearly 400kg per capita, significantly above the national average of 260kg.

Argentinian Court of Appeal rejects cartelisation appeal

Argentina’s Court of Appeal has rejected the appeal made by Loma Negra, Juan Minetti, Cementos Avellaneda, Petroquímica Comodoro Rivadavia and Cemento San Martín, upholding the previous price-fixing ruling and the multi-million peso fines attached. The companies were awarded fines of ARS300m (US$66.5m) as penalty for anti-competitive practices between 1981-99.
