China: Shandong Shanshui returns to profitability

Shandong Shanshui Cement has managed to turn its losses into profit following a year of defaulting on debts after a battle for control of the company. Zimbabwe: Mortal Investments plant complete

The construction of Mortal Investments Manufacturing Co’s US$10m plant in Redcliff, Zimbabwe, has been completed. The Chinese investor begun construction of the new plant in August after purchasing a 100,000m 2 plot of land. According to Redcliff Municipality Mayor, Councillor Fred Kapuya, the plant is in its test run phase, which is expected to be completed early 2017.

Taiwan Cement plans to increase exports to China

The Taiwan Cement Corporation has said that it expects to ship 1.1Mt of cement to China in the first quarter of 2017, an increase of two per cent on its performance in 1Q16, the Taipei Times reports. Ghanaian customs officials have prevented a Chinese-registered vessel – the Guo Tou 106 – from offloading bagged cement at Tema port for which it had no import licence, the Chronicle newspaper reports. Dewan Cement Ltd (DCL) posted a net profit of PKR268m (US$2.55m) for the quarter ended 30 September, a 61.4 per cent increase YoY from the PKR166m registered last year. China Resources Jan-Sep net profit declines 35%

China Resources Cement reported a 35 per cent fall in net profit for the first nine months of 2016 as weaker revenues impacted profits of the Hong Kong-listed cement producer. Net profit in Jan-Sep declined to HKD838.3m (US$108m) from HKD1.28bn in 9M15. Revenues saw a 12 per cent drop to HKD17.48bn. For the three months ended September, the company posted a net profit of HKD580.8m, considerably improving on last year’s third-quarter net loss of HKD248m.
