Vietnam produced 51.3Mt of cement in the first 11 months of this year, down 5.4 per cent from a year earlier, the General Statistics Office said. Gresik sees output rising 18% next year, Indonesia

Indonesia’s leading cement producer PT Semen Gresik expects cement production to increase by 18 per cent next year, however, it has hinted that domestic sales growth could slow next year compared to the robust figures expected in 2012. Brazilian cement sales in October 2012 reached 6.2Mt, representing a 9.8 per cent rise compared to the same month of the previous year, data from the Sindicato Nacional da Indústria do Cimento, shows. In October, demand for cement in Peru reached 903,750t with exports adding a further 28,634t to the total delivery figure for the month. Local cement makers produced around 926,623t, according to Peru’s cement manufacturers’ association Asocem. US cement consumption falters

United States cement consumption in September fell 2.3 per cent versus the same month last year, representing a reversal of the growth trend for the first time in 2012. According to preliminary figures released by the USGS, monthly cement consumption reached 6.95Mt in September, versus 7.12Mt in 2011. Nevertheless, year-to-date consumption in 2012 has still outperformed 2011, and reached 59.56Mt in the first nine months, up 10.1 per cent compared to the same period in 2011.

Adocem reports fall in domestic demand

The Dominican cement association Adocem reports that this year to date has seen a decline in cement consumption. In the first 10 months of the year, cement demand in the Dominican Republic totalled 2.2Mt, down 8.2% when compared with the equivalent period in 2011. It forecasts a full-year figure of 2.6Mt. Buzzi Unicem's turnover for the first nine months was up by 1.7 per cent to €2,146.3m and the EBITDA increased by 11.7 per cent to €368.7m. SCG's cement division posts 29% revenue rise in 3Q12, Thailand

Siam Cement Group's cement business posted a 29 per cent increase in revenue to THB17.7bn (US$577.6m) in the third quarter of 2012, attributable to a higher domestic sales volume as well as consolidation of the recently acquired ready-mixed concrete business in Indonesia. The cement business also saw a 33 per cent rise in net profit to THB2.45bn. Building materials witnessed 18 per cent growth in revenue to THB10.5bn, thanks to continued domestic market growth momentum.
