Vietnam cement sales drop 3.38% Jan-August 2012

Cement sales in Vietnam for the first eight months of 2012 fell 3.38 per cent to 30.58Mt, against the same period of last year and fulfilling 55.6 per cent of the full-year target, the country’s Ministry of Construction said. On a MoM basis, cement sales were down 12.14 per cent from July 2012 to 3.62Mt in August. Higher sales boost Qassim Cement 1H12 net profit, Saudi Arabia

Saudi cement producer Qassim Cement Co (QCC) posted a 5.3 per cent rise in net profit to SAR307.4m (US$82m) for the first half of 2012, up from SAR291.8m a year ago, which the company attributed to an increased rise in sales. Earnings per share (EPS) stood at SAR 3.42, compared with SAR 3.24. QCC registered an operating profit of SAR 315.5m for the six months to June 2012, up from SAR297.2m a year earlier.

Inchini Cement seeks export permit, Ethiopia

Ethiopia-based producer Inchini Bedrock Cement factory is seeking approval to export cement volumes to neighbouring countries as domestic demand has declined, forcing the factory to operate at 52 per cent capacity utilisation. Spain: eight month consumption down 34.3% YoY

Spanish cement consumption for the first eight months of 2012 has declined by 34.3 per cent YoY to 9.56Mt, according to the latest data from Spanish cement association Oficemen. In August alone, demand was down 33.6 per cent YoY to 1.13Mt. Exports, on the other hand, increased by 48.9 per cent compared to the same month of 2011. Vietnam produced 31.59Mt of cement in the first eight months of this year, down two per cent from a year earlier, the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA) said. Shipments of cement in the Peruvian market totaled 6,098,738t from January to August 2012, 16.84 per cent more than the same period of 2011 (5,219,828t), the Association of Cement Producers (Asocem) has reported. Siam Cement Group (SCG) expects domestic cement consumption to be double than its earlier forecasts for 2012 as demand is on the path of recovery. Cement consumption in the Brazilian market totaled 6.3Mt in August, representing a rise of 7.3 per cent YoY, data from Sindicato Nacional da Indústria de Cimento (SNIC) shows. August 2012 sales were up 4.2 per cent on a month-on-month basis from July 2012. Total domestic shipments for the first eight months of 2012 reached 45.17Mt, representing a YoY increase of 8.5 per cent, the association data showed.

Argentina sees August declines

In August 2012, Argentina cement producers shipped 860,601t, including exports, a decrease of 5.6 per cent from July and down 16.5 per cent on August 2011. The latest data from Asociacion de Fabricantes de Cemento (AFCP) shows domestic shipments in August reached 841,124t, representing a decline of seven per cent from the previous month and a fall of 16.6 per cent compared to August 2011.
