Elementia SA, the Mexican cement maker backed by Carlos Slim and Antonio del Valle, is in talks to buy out partner Lafarge SA in their Mexican joint venture, Bloomberg reported Monday citing people with knowledge of the matter. Elementia reportedly has the right to buy Lafarge's 47 per cent stake under an option in the original terms of the Mexico partnership. Cementos Fortaleza’s new 1Mta greenfield plant in Santiago de Anaya, Hidalgo, Mexico, has been inaugurated. Mexico: Cementos Fortaleza plant to be inaugurated next week

Mexichem, Elementia and Lafarge will inaugurate the first plant of Cementos Fortaleza on Tuesday, 8 July 2014. The event will be led by Mexico’s president, Enrique Peña Nieto, and Carlos Slim Helú, head of Grupo Carso. The new works is located in Santiago de Anaya, Hidalgo, and is expected to produce 2Mta. Cementos Fortaleza is a strategic alliance between Elementia, which holds 53 per cent of shares, and Lafarge, which holds the balance.

Lafarge announces joint venture with Elementia, Mexico

Lafarge announces it has reached an agreement with Elementia to combine their cement assets in Mexico. Lafarge will bring its two plants of Vito and Tula for a total capacity close to 1Mta, while Elementia will contribute the new 1Mta plant it is currently building in central Mexico.
