Dyckerhoff net profit down on European markets

Buzzi Unicem's subsidiary Dyckerhoff has confirmed that net profit in 2012 fell as declines in Europe could not be offset by volume increases in Russia and the USA. The German-based cement major said in a release on Friday that net attributable profit for the year fell 59.2 per cent from the year before to EUR26.9m. Cementos Molins to reduce workforce

Spain-based cement producer Cementos Molins is to cut 56 jobs at its St Vicenc dels Horts works due to the ongoing crisis in the domestic construction market. The cutbacks will reduce the total number of employees at the plant by 29.3 per cent, according to reports in Cinco Días.

Annual results released by Holcim earlier this week show that cement sales for the Swiss major in 2012 were ahead in spite of lower European volumes and political instability in the Middle East. Construction output fell by 1.7 per cent in the euro area EA17 and by 2.7 per cent in the EU27 in December 2012, compared with the previous month. Spanish cement producers have had a frosty start to the year as cement consumption continues to fall. January 2013 data show a 21.5 per cent decrease to 892,783t from 1.138Mt recorded in January 2012, according to the country’s cement association Oficemen. On 25 January 2013, the European Commission announced a delay in the distribution of free allowances to industrial installations participating in the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), scheduled by the end of February 2013, reports Cembureau.
