Diamond Cement workers to resume production, Ghana

Diamond Cement Ghana Ltd (DCGL) will resume production at its Aflao plant by next week following a a three week shutdown due to power shortages. The power shortage occurred due lightening striking a transformer at the GRIDCO sub-station near Aflao during a 26 April  thunderstorm. The power shortage at the cement works has resulted in a shortfall of 120,000 (2,400,000 bags) of product to the market. Pozzolana Ghana Ltd (PGL), a subsidiary of PMC Global Link of the USA and the State Housing Company (SHC) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to supply cement to SHC. Cement prices in Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region of Ghana and the Tamale Metropolitan District, have risen above the official value to GHS20/bag (US$11.5), according to local media reports. A cement shortage has also been reported on the market, affecting ongoing construction works in the regional capital. Cement shortage hits Ghana’s Cape Coast

A shortage of cement has been reported in the Cape Coast, central regional capital of Ghana as a result of faulty equipment at Tarkarodi Cement, according to local press reports. Retailers at Cape Code told City & Business Guide that customers are struggling to buy a bag of cement which is currently being sold for GHS18 instead of the previous GHS14. Kwame Mensah, a retailer at Sackey Cement Works said in an interview that they have not received cement since last week.
