Housebuilding boosts UK construction growth

UK construction has grown at its fastest annual pace in four months during June 2014 led by an increase in housebuilding, a survey has suggested. The Markit/CIPS purchasing managers' index (PMI) for the sector rose to 62.6 in June from 60.0 in May, its highest level since February and well above the forecast for a fall to 59.5. PPC Zimbabwe's domestic sales fell by five per cent in the first five months of the year as housebuilding activity slows. Managing director, Njombo Lekula, said domestic market sales have been flat compared to last year when growth in housing projects boosted demand for cement. Deutsche Bank lowers China demand forecast

According to the latest research report by Deutsche Bank, cement demand forecast was lowered to 4.5 per cent, due to the recent slowdown in the real estate market in China. However, the forecast still exceeds cement supply of 1.9 per cent. The target prices of cement stocks were reduced in accordance with the adjustments on sales volume and average selling prices.

Cemex announced Tuesday that it has completed 640 apartments in Colombia as part of a 3000-unit urbanisation project being undertaken by the company in collaboration with the country's government.
