For the first nine months of 2017, cement consumption in Indonesia rose 6.6 per cent to 47.432Mt from 45.504Mt, according to the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI). The data reflects sales by ASI members only. Indonesia's cement sales struggled last month as bad weather disrupted construction projects across the country. Sales fell to 5.3Mt last month, down 2.3 per cent YoY. Indonesia consumed 62Mt of cement in 2016, up three per cent on the previous year, but below the Indonesian Cement Association’s (ASI) target of 65Mt, the Jakarta Globe reports. According to the Chairman of the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI), Widodo Santoso, national cement consumption is expected to grow by 8.04 per cent in 2017, reaching 68Mt. The growth is expected to come as a result of steady overall growth and higher demand for building materials for public projects. Fuelled by rising housing demand and subsequent property development, Indonesia saw cement sales increase 12% through the first seven months of the year, according to the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI).
