Paraguay: INC reduces cement price as output increases

Paraguay-based Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) has reduced cement prices to PYG36,500/bag from PYG39,800/bag - the third price reduction in the past four years. Production costs at the Vallemi plant are falling. The switch from fuel oil to petcoke has enabled the company to save US$20m. In addition, cement production increased to 180tpd from 80tpd during the same time frame. “From 1 January to Friday, 4 July 2017, 7246,884 bags were dispatched,” according to INC.

Brazil’s current imports of around 400,000 bags of cement is damaging the Paraguayan cement industry, according to Jorge Méndez, CEO of Industria Nacional de Cemento (INC). The civil work related to the fuel conversion of the kiln at the Vallemi plant of Paraguay’s Industria Nacional de Cemento (INC) is scheduled to start in May, said CEO Jorge Méndez. Following the fuel conversion at Industria Nacional de Cemento’s Villeta plant in Paraguay, its CEO, Jorge Méndez, said he expects up to a 15 per cent drop in the price of cement in 2016. The Paraguayan state will lend Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) US$67m to reactivate the company’s investments in its Vallemí and Villeta plants, which were on hold due to lack of funds.  The investments include a fuel conversion at the kiln of Vallemí as well as a new cooler and the optimisation of limestone grinding at the works. At Villeta, the company is reportedly investing US$7m in two new packing machines, to be supplied by Haver & Boecker.
