Sinoma and CITIC Heavy Industries have agreed deals worth US$733m to construct cement plants in Nigeria and Myanmar, respectively. Myanmar's cement sector is set to expand with the prospect of several new state-led joint ventures coming into existence after the government gave the go-ahead to 13 companies to establish projects to boost the country's cement production. Thailand-based Siam City Cement (SCCC) has put its plans for a 1Mta cement plant in Cambodia on hold while it concentrates on meeting domestic market needs. Lafarge Malayan Cement is expected to finalise plans for a new expansion project by the end of August this year, according to the company's chief executive Bradley Mulroney.
