Saudi cement companies saw profits rise 8.2 per cent as cement demand in the kingdom continued to expand on the back of large projects, said Global Research in its June 2013 report. Cement demand in the 1Q13 stood at 15.5Mt compared to 14Mt in the same period last year. Southern Province Cement posted a SAR566m (US$150.9m) net profit for the first half of 2013, up from SAR546m a year ago. The company attributed the increase to higher sales driven by a rise in local demand. Sinoma International Engineering has ordered a Loesche  LM 56.4 for grinding cement raw material at the plant of Southern Province Cement Co in Tahamah, Saudi Arabia. Southern Province Cement Company started commissioning its third mill at the Jazan plant on 27 January 2013. The commissioning period is expected to be completed by 15 March 2013. Saudi Arabian cement producer Southern Province Cement reported a YoY rise in net profit for the the first nine months of 2012 and for the third quarter of the year thanks to an increase in demand for cement on the local market. Saudi Southern Province Cement Company said on Sunday its third-quarter net profit rose by 11.7 percent over last year's figure due to higher local demand. The company said net earnings were SAR201m (US$56m) in the three months to Septebmber 30, compared to SAR180m in the third quarter of last year. The results were 23-percent below that of the second quarter, a decline the company attributed to lower sales during the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan when activity slows.

Southern Province Cement (SPC) posted a 9.6 per cent increase in second quarter profit, Reuters reports. SPC achieved a net profit of US$69.86m during the quarter, up from US$63.6m a year earlier. Southern Province Cement (SPC) and Chinese engineering company Sinoma have signed a SAR707m (US$188m) contract for the installation of a third new line at SPC’s plant in Tuhama. Southern Province new line begins production, Saudi Arabia

Southern Province Cement (SPC) said the production line at its Tuhama plant started commercial production last week. The new 5000tpd line brings the Tuhama plant capacity to 10,000tpd and SPC’s total capacity to 23,000tpd. Last month the company announced the launch of trial productions at its new line, SeeNews Middle East and Africa reports.
