Argentina: Cementos Avellaneda to double capacity

Cementos Avellaneda plans to invest US$100m at its La Calera works in San Luis to double its production, according to CEO Miguel De Anquin. The expansion is expected to supply the local market in San Luis, which due to public works and private projects has seen its cement consumption rise to nearly 400kg per capita, significantly above the national average of 260kg.

Moctezuma to double Apazapan capacity

Cementos Moctezuma announced investments of US$200m to double capacity of its Apazapan works in Veracruz, Mexico. The Apazapan plant came on-stream at the end of 2010 with a capacity of 1.3Mta. The expansion programme will see Mexico’s fourth-largest producer increase capacity at the plant by the same amount. Moctezuma, owned by Buzzi Unicem and Cementos Molins, operates three plants in total with combined capacity of 6.3Mta capacity.

Venezuela cement capacity set to increase

With a total capacity of 9.09Mta and 20 production lines, Venezuela’s cement industry is stable, according to the country’s Minister for Industry, José David Cabello. He also explained that three new cement production lines with a combined capacity of 3.2Mta are under construction. "The projection is to increase the production capacity in the country to an extra 3.65Mta in the coming years," he said. Venezuela’s government plans to invest US$850m to increase domestic production.
