Pakistan's June dispatches dragged down by lower exports

Total dispatches by Pakistan cement manufacturers during June 2013 fell 6.44 per cent to 2.702Mt compared to 2.888Mt in the previous month, held back mainly by lower export volumes. Domestic dispatches declined 1.4 per cent on monthly basis to 2.07Mt in June 2013 compared to 2.10Mt in the month before. Vietnam cement sales slip during Jan-May 2013

Vietnam cement sales declined by 2.1 per cent in the first five months of this year to 19.5Mt compared to the same period of last year, data from the Ministry of Construction showed. The 2013 five-month figure represents 39.5 per cent of the whole year target, the ministry said. Iran plans to export 18.5Mt of cement in the current Iranian calendar year, which began on 21 March, Mehdi Ghazanfari, the Iranian deputy industry, mines and trade minister, said. Pakistan saw a rise in total dispatches for the first 11 months of the current fiscal but May 2013 sales declined by one per cent largely due to transport issues. China cement and clinker exports rise 31.5%

China has reported a 31.5 per cent YoY increase in cement and clinker export volumes for the first four months of 2013, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The value of exports was US$230m, a rise of 21.1 per cent on the year before. Last year, total Chinese exports increased to 11.5Mt (6.2Mt of cement, 5.3Mt of clinker) and this year total exports are expected to rise to 12Mt.

Nigeria government outlines savings from reduced imports

The decision by the Nigerian government to not issue cement import licences in 2012 and focus on meeting domestic needs internally has saved the country approximately NGN300bn (US$1.9bn), Olusegun Aganga, Minister of Trade and Investment has said. Cement demand in Belgium declined 2.2 per cent to 6.41Mt but this decrease was well below the European average decline of 18.8 per cent, according to Belgian cement association Febelcem. During the first 10 months (July 2012-April 2013) Pakistan exported 6.943Mt on revenues of US$469.02m, compared to 7.016Mt at US$390.42m in the corresponding period of last year. Lafarge Malayan Cement is expected to finalise plans for a new expansion project by the end of August this year, according to the company's chief executive Bradley Mulroney.
