Ambuja Cement adds 0.9Mta to Sankrail grinding unit

India’s Ambuja Cement has added 0.9Mta of capacity to its Sankrail grinding unit near Kolkata. The INR3.38bn (US$50.2m) project was commissioned on 24 May 2016. As a result of the expansion, the plant’s current capacity now stands at 2.4Mta. India: Prism Cement 4QFY16 profits fall 95% YoY

Prism Cement’s net profits for the quarter to 31 March 2016 fell to just INR30m (US$445,000), down 95.2 per cent YoY, reports India Infoline. Net revenues at the company rose by 4.1 per cent YoY to INR15.9bn (US$236m), while profit margins were estimated at 6.3 per cent. Indian producers have struggled over the past year as low prices have hit profits even as volume sales have risen.

LafargeHolcim: cement volumes up 1.4% but revenues flat

In its results for 1Q16, LafargeHolcim announced that cement volume sales rose by 1.4 per cent YoY with the Asia-Pacific region accounting for most of the improvement. Like-for-like revenues were almost unchanged on 1Q15, rising by just 0.1 per cent to stand at CHF6.062bn (US$6.244bn). India: ECO Cement to produce for Prism Cement

Cogencis EquityWire reports that ECO Cement (ECL) and Prism Cement have reached an agreement whereby the former will manufacture and supply cement to the latter. "The arrangement with ECL is expected to help the company optimise its logistic costs as well as improve local availability in its strategic markets of Bihar," Prism Cement said.
