On 17 June 2016, the United States Federal Trade Commission reached an agreement with HeidelbergCement AG and Italcementi SpA allowing the merger between the two companies to proceed on schedule. As part of the joining up with Holcim, Lafarge is acquiring Baring’s 14 per cent stake in Lafarge India for EUR270m. Lafarge’s subsidiary Ashaka Cement reported a 53.5 per cent drop in first-quarter profits to the end of March to NGN886m (US$4.5m) as insurgency disrupted operations and a prolonged rainy season reduced demand.
