Eqiom tests intermodal cement transport

In the last three weeks, France-based cement producer  Eqiom has been testing the movement of cement by intermodal transport. The company hopes to find a new solution via road and inland waterways to supply its customers in Ile-de-France with up to 25 containers of bulk cement per week from its plant in Grand Couronne, near Rouen. Cement imports by canoe in western DRC

Following the import ban on grey cement in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), importers have taken more creative ways to import cement into the central African country. According to reports by Agence d’Information d’Afrique Centrale, grey cement is now imported via canoe on the Congo River to the main consumption centres in the country. Local producers have protested, citing unfair competition, import fraud and a low product quality as the main reasons for their grievances.

Cemex conducting pilot tests for Magdalena river transport

To improve its operational efficiency, Cemex has started running pilot tests to transport cement via the Magdalena River in Colombia. Cement is transported from central Colombia to the Caribbean region during these trials. On the first trip, some 950t were transported from the main plant at Caracolito to Sociedad Portuaria de Barranquilla.
