Breedon Aggregates has established itself as a successful player in the UK building materials market over a short period of time. It is the largest independent aggregates business in the UK, with downstream operations providing a range of products for a broad customer base. Keen to build on this platform, group chief executive, Simon Vivian, explains to ICR Breedon’s priorities in terms of its aggregates and ready-mixed concrete operations, the company’s approach to sustainability and ambitions for further growth.

Created in September 2010, Breedon has established itself firmly on the UK building materials industry scene through a strategy of organic growth and acquisitions. Today it operates 52 quarries plus a good network of asphalt and ready-mixed concrete/mortar plants across two fully-integrated autonomous businesses in England and Scotland. As Mr Vivian explains, further consolidation of the smaller end of the UK’s heavyside building materials industry is high on the company’s agenda, and with broader plans to expand into new markets, Breedon remains on the look-out for new investment opportunities.
