According to a cautionary announcement issued by PPC on 11 May, discussions on “the merits of a potential merger” between PPC and AfriSam are “still in progress”. Talks were revived in February this year as both companies faced low government infrastructure spending, tightened competition, low cement prices and the dumping of cheap cement from Asia in their home market.
