Despite a cooling economy, Mexican construction has enjoyed a strong housing market and increased government spending on infrastructure. This enhanced building activity benefited the local cement markets which have seen a steady annual growth averaging four per cent in recent years. Local producers have positioned themselves successfully and with new capacity coming on-line, scope for further growth exists. The industry has also seen its export potential rise considerably as the US-Mexican trade agreement of 2006 has seen trade barriers into the US come down.
