Turning the tide on plastic waste in south Asia

19 May 2025

The cement industry in south Asia currently co-processes over 1Mta of non-recyclable plastic waste (NRPW). With further efforts, the region has the potential to achieve thermal substitution rates (TSR) comparable to the EU’s 50 per cent, contributing significantly to reducing global plastic pollution and promoting sustainability in the region. by Dr Kåre Helge Karstensen and Palash Kumar Saha, SINTEF, Norway
