volcanic tuff

Dear everyone,

Do you have any experimental result about using volcanic tuff as small igridient in raw meal?

Best Regards,

Re: volcanic tuff

Dependent on the chemical composition of the tuff there is no reason not to do this.

Re: volcanic tuff

As for now, we are using bauxite 0.75 and iron ore 0.25. according to chemical analyses we can use 0.25 volcanic tuff also. Beside, we can increase this content because of the chemical composition of the tuff can be adjusted with clay etc.

What I am wondering if we add tuff to the raw meal, will clinkerization temperature decrease or let's say the strength will increase, will it improe the crystal structure of C3S?

Thank you,

Re: volcanic tuff

No-one can be sure, but I would expect any changes in combinability temperature or thermal energy consumption to be beneficial. The tuff will be a more homogenous material which has already been thermally altered. The bauxite is a hydroxide and therefore will involve higher thermal energy consumption. Its replacement by tuff should be advantageous, provided there are no detrimental minor components in the tuff.
