High CO up to 2% at kiln inlet

Since few days we started getting CO up to 2% at kiln inlet. We are using 100% south african coal with GCV 5600 and VM around 22 to 23%. We have conventional single channel burner with primary air fan volume 5000 m3/hr and burner tip velocity mentained 80 m/s.

We tried to reduce the burner tip velocity from 80 to 60m/s and also tried with different coal fineness and checked still CO not came down. Due to CO we are finding yellow core in clinker. We tried to reduce main and PC firning coal we found there is reduction in temp and feed rate. This might be the reason of coal is not combusted properly in burning zone. Please suggest what could be the possible reasons of getting CO at kiln inlet and how to overcome the problem.

Please check following for CO 1. Fine coal residue on 90 micron. 2. Kiln feed calibration 3. Fine coal inherent moisture 4. false air from kiln inlet to fan inlet 5. Most important is to Change existing burner pipe with spare one as thou have mentioned tip velocity which is OK but burner deteriorated is difficult to judge. I think in your case it is the burner pipe is the culprit to generate CO on continuous basis

Dear,

          1.   Unburn coal is going from flame by long propagation . Increase PA pressure  upto 1600 mmwg. Make short flame .

          2. Some time coal is dropping from PC firing & unburn coal come with kiln feed pipe & burn at  kiln inlet but give peak of temp with high CO

.Give trend of co , peak temp,O2 & Nox ppm at kiln inlet for better understanding problem. Maintain hood draft -2.5 mmwg , If running higher side.
