Cement prices in China drop for two consecutive weeks

Cement prices in China dropped two consecutive weeks from August 15 to August 28 though the traditional peak season for cement sales in China is approaching.

In the week of August 22 to August 28, cement prices across the country dropped 0.77 percent week on week, according to statistics released by Digital Cement, a consulting firm run by the China Cement Association.

Provinces in central China and Chongqing Municipality witnessed the biggest drop of 20 yuan to 50 yuan per tonne in cement price last week, while quite a few cement factories in provinces in east China, such as Zhejiang and Jiangsu, suspended production.

The sudden decrease in price was unexpected right before the peak season, and would cast negative impact on the industry.
