Nigeria: cement price drops 13 per cent in Asaba
25 August 2009

There has been a 13 per cent reduction in the price of cement in Asaba, according to a market survey by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The price dropped from N1900 (US$12.24) for a bag in July to N1,650  (US$10.63) in August. Some of the cement dealers attributed the price reduction to the rainy season.

Oluchi Eze, a cement dealer, said that a bag of both the Dangote and Elephant brands, which sold for N1900 in May, now sells for N1,650. Eze said there was less demand for cement in the rainy season because most of the builders preferred to build houses in the dry season. The rainy season has also affected the demand for cement-based building blocks.
