Following a recent alert from security agencies that RDX explosives were being smuggled through cement bags into the country from Pakistan via the Wagah border, Indian cement dealers and companies are planning to freeze import of the building commodity from Pakistan.

Delhi-based Karmic Overseas, a midsized trader that imports about 50,000t of cement every month through the Wagah border, has already cancelled its earlier orders, a move that is likely to be followed by other cement dealers around north India, said dealers.

Siddharth Mayar, director of Karmic Overseas Pvt Ltd said: "We have stopped all imports from Wagah border seeing the security threat but will continue to look at other options."
