Chile: Polpaico leads cement market with 34%
Chilean cement industry association Instituto del Cemento reports a 2,8% increase in the domestic market in 2006 to 4.1Mt, with Lafarge via Cementos Melon having a 33,8% share (less 1,35%); Cementos Bio Bio has a 32,2% share; the leader continues to be Polpaico with a 34% selling 1.39mil m tons of cement. Melon is erecting a new plant at the V Region with capacity for 600,000 mtpy, and plus investments of US$27mil to a new plant at Puerto Montt, expanding capacity by 300,000 mtpy. The concrete market was 5.7mil m tons, 2,7% above 2005.
