More commodities for Indonesian flagged ships
01 January 2007

Indonesian government has put four more commodities that have to be shipped using Indonesian flagged ships starting January 1 2007. The four commodities are crude palm oil (CPO), mine and quarry products, other grains, and fresh products.

"Therefore, starting 2007, nine domestic commodities should be shipped using Indonesian flagged ships," said the Transportation Minister Hatta Rajasa after presenting his year end evaluation of 2006 on Wednesday.

Previously, he said, five commodities like general cargo, wood, rice, fertilizer and cement should be transported with Indonesian flagged ships. With the four more commodities, he hopes that the market share of Indonesian flagged ships will increase, especially on the domestic shipments.

Since the issuance of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No.5/2005 on the empowerment of national shipping industry, he said, the market share of Indonesian ships has increased.
