Cement firms raise south India prices

Indian cement companies have raised prices by up to 11.4 per cent, or 20 rupees per 50-kg bag, in south India in the past two weeks to cash in on rising demand from the region’s construction industry, dealers said. Prices for a 50-kg bag have risen to about 195 rupees (US$4.3) for bulk buyers, a dealer told Reuters.  "Almost all major players have hiked prices. The price for the retail segment is up only by 5-7 rupees per bag," he said. 
 
The major cement suppliers in south Indian are India Cements, Grasim Industries, UltraTech Cement, Madras Cements and Chettinad Cement Corp. ($1 = 44.9 Indian rupees)
