Chilean cement company Cemento Melón will begin operating a new limestone mine called Cantera Ñilhue in the country’s central Region V, newspaper Diario Financiero reported. The mine will be operational for an estimated 30 years and will have limestone production capacity of up to 400,000tpa. The operation will require a US$7.8m investment to build a deposit to store material from quarry development, to install a grinding station and to set up a transport system that will carry the limestone 48km to the company’s La Calera cement plant.
