Oba-jana Cement Company, located in Kogi State, is to commence production of pure cement in May 2005.  

Alhaji Usman Jibrin Mai,General Manager, Special Duties, who disclosed this to reporters on assessment visit to the company at the weekend, said the first stage of the project would be test-run on December 31. The company with capacity to produce over 100 million bags of cement yearly has Dangote Industries Limited as its core investor. 

Over 500 trucks will load cement out of the factory daily, adding that several thousands of people will be employed directly and indirectly, when the company eventually come on-stream. The company is an independent power plant with the capacity of generating a total of 360 megawatts of electricity and will only use about 85 megawatts, while the remaining 260 will be sold to the Federal Government. 

The Obajana Cement Factory is a joint effort of Kogi State government and Dangote Industries Limited, which has 60 per cent of the total shareholding as against the state government’s 30 per cent, while the remaining 10 per cent is being hold in trust for any Kogi State indigene who may wish to invest in it.
