08 November 2004

Somani Cement Company Ltd, the pioneer in cement manufacturing in Gujarat, is going to set up a new 1000tpd ’vertical shaft kollen rotrate technology’ plant at Mahuva in Bhavnagar district to meet the growing market demands. The company is approaching ACC for technical tie-up and talks are on with Cimco Birla for supply of machinery and equipment for the cement plant. The company will market the product as ’Somani Cement.’ The brand and its cement are already well accepted in the market. According to a company press release, ACC has conducted a project viability study and selected the project site. It also conducted a geological survey in 680 hectare, and also found that a huge quantity of limestone is available in this part of land which will be beneficial for the company. Somani Cement Company Ltd, established in 1983, produces world class cement at its state-of-the-art plant with ultra-modern technology in Gujarat and different parts of the country.

The company’s 300tpd existing cement plant is manufacturing and trading high-quality ’Portland Cement’ and ’Lime Pozolan Cement.’ The company’s profits and turnover are expected to go up substantially after the completion of the project. Banks, FIIs and insurance companies have 5 per cent stake in the project, besides PNB which recently acquired 4.4 per cent stake. Morgan Stanley has apparently a 0.5 per cent stake in the project.
