Ashaka Cement denies labour lay-off
15 July 2004

Managing director of Ashaka Cement, Alhaji Mohammed Daggash, yesterday said the company has not commenced workers retrenchment.  Daggash, in an interview with newsmen at Ashaka, said though the company had the intention to retrench workers, the exercise is yet to commence.  According to him, the company would not embark on any rationlisation without informing its board of directors and the state Governor, Alhaji Danjuma Goje.  The governor, at a recent visit to the company pleaded with management to exercise restraint before carrying out any retrenchment, so as not to compound the already bad economic situation of workers and their families.  Daggash said the company with 766 workers, including 55 trainees would ensure that even when it retrenches, workers and their families would not suffer.
