Cambodia crisis stalls Thai plans
05 July 2004

Realizing that the cement market in neighbouring countries, especially in Cambodia, is excellent for its commerce,  Siam Cement is having plans for greater investment to expand the export of its product to Cambodia. This project to be worth US$150m would be completed before 2005.  Pramot Dechasuphakun, president of Siam Cement, told a Thai business newspaper on Monday 21 June that among the neighbouring countries to which Thailand has exported cement Cambodia is its main target because the demand for cement in this country has increased tremendously, but no clear decision has been taken because of the current political crisis in Cambodia.  He said, "The present need for cement in Cambodia is about 1.5Mt to 2Mt annually, which is a sufficiently high demand to justify the investment."
