Colombia’s cement production increases 12.1% in September

Colombian cement producers increased their output in September by 12.1 per cent to 1.003Mt when compared with September 2013. During the month they also dispatched 0.981Mt, an advance of 13.7 per cent, according to the country’s statistics office DANE.

Norte de Santander registered the largest increase in deliveries at 55.2 per cent, followed by Caldas (40 per cent), Cundinamarca (28.7 per cent and Antioquia (20.2 per cent). However, Nariño reported a 20.9 per cent fall in dispatches while Córdoba and Huila also noted decreases of 6.2 and 1.1 per cent, respectively.

In the first nine months of 2013, cement production reached 8.166Mt, up 0.1 per cent YoY.

Meanwhile, national deliveries rose 1.4 per cent to 7.948Mt in the Jan-Sep period. Córdoba registered a 28 per cent increase while Atlántico and Bolívar noted advances of 17.3 and 15.7 per cent, respectively. In contrast, Bogotá’s consumption fell by 9.1 per cent.
