Bolivia: motor for mill 4000m above sea level
18 August 2016

German company Menzel Elektromotoren has delivered two motors to a cement plant in Bolivia for a cement mill and a classifier. The mill in question is not only Bolivia’s first VRM, but at 4000m above sea level it is also the highest installed elevation of an OK mill in the entire Americas.

Due to the mill’s location, particular technical attention had to be paid to the durability of the motors. Menzel modified its standard motors further so they would be able to withstand special operating conditions. Throughout the modification planning phase, Menzel engineers and the customer worked together closely to determine the most efficient and economical solutions. A change of voltage, construction of a foundation plate and the installation of a vibration monitoring system into the control was requested by the customer.

Following the commissioning of this order, which is set for September 2016, more than 10 Menzel motors will be powering machines at the Bolivian plant.
