Argentina’s cement market sees 4% YoY growth in 8M17

Argentine cement demand remained largely stable in August 2018 as it reached 1.115Mt when compared with 1.122Mt in August 2017, according to the latest data from AFCP, the country’s cement association. Domestic shipments stood firm at around 1.113Mt in August 2018 while imports dropped from 9194t in August 2017 to 2228t in August 2018.

In addition to domestic deliveries, Argentina’s cement producers also exported 4610t of cement, up from 4031t in the year-ago period.

For the first eight months of 2018, Argentine consumption rose 4.2 per cent from 7.658Mt in 8M17 to 7.98Mt in 8M18. In addition to dispatches by domestic producers of 7.913Mt, the country imported some 67,646t of cement from overseas suppliers, representing a 46.9 per cent increase when compared with 8M17 when 46,052t was imported. 

Exports edged up 4.7 per cent from 44,048t in 8M17 to 46,105t in 8M18.
