Puerto Rican cement demand rose 14% in December 2018

Cement sales in Puerto Rico advanced 13.5 per cent to just over 1m bags of 42.5kg (42,500t) in December 2018 when compared with December 2017, according to the country’s Planning Board.

Cement production increased 96 per cent YoY to 964,000 bags, or 40,970t in December 2018.

Between July and December 2018, sales totalled 6.9m bags (293,250t), up 60 per cent from the year-ago period. Output climbed 67.3 per cent YoY to 6.4m bags (272,000t) in the six-month period.

The positive figures were attributed to reconstruction efforts following the devastation caused by hurricane Maria.
