US and Puerto Rican cement shipments fall to 5.7Mt in February

Total shipments of Portland and blended cements in the USA and Puerto Rico fell slightly to 5.7Mt in February 2019 when compared with February 2018, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The top-five consuming states were Texas, Florida, California, Georgia and North Carolina.

Masonry cement dispatches totalled 160,000t in February 2019, down 5.2 per cent YoY. Leading masonry cement-consuming states were Florida, Texas, California, Georgia and North Carolina.

The country’s leading cement producing states were Texas, California, Florida, Missouri and Alabama. In terms of US clinker production, output slipped two per cent YoY to 4.6Mt. Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama were the country’s leading clinker-producing states.

In addition to domestic production, some 803,000t of cement and clinker were imported, an extra 18 per cent when compared with the import volume of February 2018.

In the first two months of 2019, Portland and blended cement shipments in the US and Puerto Rico were up 4.7 per cent YoY to 12.1Mt. Clinker production increased 4.6 per cent YoY to 9.8Mt. In addition, 353,000t of masonry were delivered in the US during the 2M19, representing arise of 4.6 per cent YoY. Cement and clinker imports were up 15 per cent YoY to 1.7Mt.
