Vietnamese cement dispatches fall in May

Domestic cement dispatches in Vietnam fell six per cent YoY and seven per cent MoM to 5.929Mt in May 2019, according to the Vietnam Cement Association (VNCA). Of this total, 2.014Mt were delivered by VICEM and 1.625Mt by its associated companies, representing YoY decreases of seven and 10 per cent, respectively and MoM declines of three and nine per cent, respectively. Other Vietnamese cement producers accounted for 2.29Mt of domestic dispatches.

In addition, around 2.545Mt of cement and clinker were exported from Vietnam, six per cent more than in May 2018, but down 10 per cent MoM. Cement exports rose by 13 per cent MoM and 60 per cent YoY to 1.176Mt. However, clinker exports declined by 24 per cent MoM and 18 per cent YoY.

January-May 2019
Between January-May 2019 total domestic dispatches in Vietnam fell four per cent to 26.373Mt when compared with the prior-year period. While VICEM saw a three per cent rise in its domestic deliveries to 9.011Mt, its affiliates recorded a three per cent dip in theirs to 7.222Mt. Other Vietnamese producers saw their five-month sales slip by four per cent to 10.14Mt.

Exports from in the first five months of 2019 slipped two per cent YoY to 40.195Mt. Cement exports increased by 69 per cent to 5.362Mt while clinker exports declined by 19 per cent to 8.461Mt.
