Italy sees 5% reduction in cement output in October

Italian cement production fell by five per cent YoY in October 2022, according to the country’s construction chamber, Federbeton. When compared with the 2015 base index production the value increased from 96 in August to 102 per cent in October.

Cement prices in October increased MoM to 197 when compared with the base year of 2015 (=100). However, they saw a 57 per cent increase when compared with October 2021.

External trade
Grey cement imports in September increased by 33 per cent when compared with September 2021 with a total CIF value of EUR11.89m. This represents a CIF value of EUR83/t, up from EUR82/t in August. In the first nine months of 2022, grey cement imports increased 15 per cent YoY.

Italian cement producers exported 116,623t of grey cement in September 2022, down 21 per cent YoY. The shipments had a total FOB value of EUR10.586m, with the FOB value per tonne of cement remaining stable at EUR91/t in September 2022 when compared with the previous month. In terms of exports in the 9M22, volumes fell by 13 per cent YoY.
