Cement sales in Puerto Rico fell by 6.8 per cent YoY in 2022 to 14.5m bags of 42.6kg, or 618,247t, according to the Puerto Rican Statistics Institute. It is the first decline since 2019.
In 2021 cement sales reached their peak since eight years. However, in June they started to fall and this trend was maintained until December 2022, when they decreased by 3.4 per cent.
Cement production advanced 11.6 per cent YoY in 2022 to 8.3m bags, or 353,893t. It is the first increase in four years. In 2021 output fell by 29.5 per cent YoY.
