India’s Dalmia Cement has signed an agreement with Indian Railways to transport cement and raw materials by rail from its Chunar plant in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.
Rail dispatches are due to begin in August, when ~15,000t of cement will be transported in 6-7 rakes to destinations including Ayodhya, Ghazipur, Deoria and Chilbila. From September, shipments are expected to increase to around 10 rakes, or 26,000t, per month.
The agreement also provides for the inbound transportation of around 15 rakes of clinker and 1-2 rakes of gypsum per month.
Dalmia Cement acquired the Chunar cement plant from Jaiprakash Associates Ltd, with cement production reportedly restarting at the facility in June.
North Central Railway said the new arrangement would provide Dalmia Cement with more reliable logistics while increasing freight traffic following the development of India’s Dedicated Freight Corridor.
