UltraTech Cement Ltd will deploy more than 600 heavy-duty electric trucks across its Indian logistics network by December 2026 as part of efforts to reduce supply-chain emissions.
The company has signed service contracts with electric vehicle manufacturers including Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, IPLTech, Energy in Motion and Sany, as well as subsidiaries and third-party logistics providers.
The new fleet will transport around 5Mt of clinker and other materials annually across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha. Once fully deployed, UltraTech expects the trucks to reduce net CO2 emissions by more than 117,000tpa and displace approximately 39Ml of diesel annually.
UltraTech's logistics electrification programme covers mine-to-plant movements and inter-plant transportation of clinker and other materials. The company currently operates more than 850 CNG and electric vehicles in its green logistics fleet, having introduced CNG trucks in 2021 and heavy-duty electric trucks in 2024.
KC Jhanwar, managing director of UltraTech Cement, said the expansion of electric mobility would support the decarbonisation of the company's value chain and its net-zero ambitions.
UltraTech currently has 205.5Mta of grey cement capacity.
