Kenya’s Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry has reportedly dropped plans to remove the 17.5 per cent levy on imported clinker.

The decision follows a prolonged dispute between integrated cement producers, which support the levy as protection for domestic clinker production, and grinding-only producers seeking lower-cost imports.

The move maintains the existing tariff regime on clinker imports into Kenya.
