Kenya’s Bamburi Cement is pursuing a deal to supply cement and concrete products for the proposed 700,000-barrel-per-day Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery in Lamu.

CEO Geoffrey Ndugwa said the project is expected to require approximately 1Mt of cement and concrete products, which Bamburi is seeking to supply from its Mombasa plant. No supply agreement has been announced.

The company plans to offer its locally manufactured DuraCem 42.5-grade cement, designed for sulphate- and chloride-resistant applications, alongside its Ultra-series concrete products. These include waterproof, self-compacting, pervious and fibre-reinforced concrete.

Bamburi is separately expanding production through a KES32bn (US$250m) engineering, procurement and construction contract with Sinoma CBMI Construction for a clinker plant at Matuga, Kwale County.

The 1.6Mta project is expected to increase Bamburi’s annual clinker capacity from 1Mt to 2.6Mt and cement capacity from 1.8Mt to 4Mt.
