Oman Cement Co and Jindal Steel Oman have signed a three-year memorandum of understanding covering the use of approximately 1Mt of steel slag as an alternative raw material in clinker production.
The agreement was signed by Oman Cement acting CEO Jiang Tao and Jindal Steel Oman CEO Harssha Shetty. Oman Cement is part of Huaxin.
The companies said the collaboration would reduce reliance on virgin raw materials and support the productive use of steelmaking by-products. The slag will be incorporated into clinker manufacturing, rather than used as a supplementary cementitious material in finished cement.
Financial terms and quantified emissions savings were not disclosed.
