Ozinga has held an opening ceremony for its new slag grinding mill in East Chicago, Indiana, USA. Project engineer Salas O’Brien lists grinding capacity at 157tph, while Ozinga states annual production capacity of one million tons.

The facility processes granulated blastfurnace slag, initially prepared at Ozinga’s Burns Harbor operation at the Cleveland-Cliffs steelworks. It will produce ASTM C989-compliant slag cement and proprietary CarbonSense blends meeting ASTM C1157 performance standards.

Equipped with a Gebr. Pfeiffer MVR 5300 C-6 vertical roller mill, the plant has water, rail and road connections to serve markets across the Midwest and beyond. Access to the Great Lakes and inland waterways supports barge distribution, while the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad provides connections to major rail networks.

The opening marks a further step following construction, although Ozinga’s announcement does not specify when full commercial production will begin.
