Belfast-based carbon-capture technology developer Nuada has been selected for EUR14.6m in EU Innovation Fund support for its SCALA project in France.

The project will deploy Nuada’s AdSpire capture process at Idex’s biomass cogeneration plant in Hauts-de-France, producing 10,000t of biogenic liquid CO2 annually. It is one of 77 projects selected in the latest funding round and has also received the European Commission’s STEP Seal.

AdSpire is a fully electric, solvent-free process combining advanced materials with vacuum technology. Nuada says the technology reduces energy demand and simplifies integration into existing industrial facilities.

SCALA follows industrial pilot campaigns, including a demonstration at enfinium’s Ferrybridge-1 facility in West Yorkshire. Nuada intends the French installation to support wider commercial deployment of its capture technology.

The Innovation Fund is financed through EU Emissions Trading System revenues. The release does not disclose the project’s total investment or commissioning timetable.
