Tech giant Meta has signed a multi-year agreement to purchase environmental attribute certificates (EACs) associated with approximately 200,000t of Fortera’s low-carbon cement.
The agreement is expected to provide revenue visibility supporting finance for Fortera’s proposed 300,000tpa ReAct cement plant at MLC’s Ste Genevieve lime works in Missouri. The facility would use CO2 captured from lime production to manufacture reactive calcium carbonate cement.
Under the book-and-claim arrangement, Meta can account for the environmental attributes separately from the physical cement. It also retains an option to use ReAct in its own construction projects and to extend the agreement’s volume and duration. Financial terms and annual purchasing volumes were not disclosed.
